It was Saturday December 14, 2012 I have just gotten off work and smelled liked fried food and hot sauce, I was heading straight home to shower and get ready because Matt was going to pick me up so that we could go to his work Christmas party.(or so I thought!) I was down stairs in my room finishing putting on my make up. When I hear the doorbell ring, my roommate quickly came downstairs and says" Uhh I think you should go open the door..." I asked her why, and if its Matt to just let him in. But she insisted that I should go open the door.
So I get up, run upstairs ( I was in the basement) and open the door, I did not see anyone but when I looked down there was a vase of tulips (my favorite flowers) a disc and two cards. I grabbed all those things and I set it on our living room table. I quickly opened the card first, and it was Matt's hand writing. My hands started shaking and my heart started pumping fast. The card said how this day will be day we will always remember ( I immediately started balling) and how I should watch the video he made. The video was pictures of us and how we met. I was crying so hard and my roommate was there to watch it all happen! I love that she was there with me. As soon as I finished watching it. I was to open the 2nd card which led me to a park where a hill is. So I quickly got in my car. And drove to the park. I parked and ran out to the hill, and I see Matt's mom with a rose and another card! I gave her a hug and she handed me the card and letter which read (yup I saved those cards)
" Now, My beautiful girl, you are coming close to your final destination, where I Am waiting for you! This place is near by and it is one of the places where we first began to speak about marriage. It is in the same park but in a more secluded place with a smaller hill and a bench on top. I don't know if you remember the day when we walked around that area and spoke about life and our future together, but I do. It is a very sweet memory for me now. I wish to make it a place that we will always remember as "our place" Go there now and I will be waiting for you. I am so grateful for all of my memories with you my love; and I look forward to many more. I love you more than I can describe in a card, and I want that love to last! Remember, I will always love you! Love- Matt "
Oh gosh, tears just kept coming down my face, happy excited tears! I could not believe this was happening!! I had my mother-in-law take me to the other hill Matt was waiting for me. It was both her and my now sister-in-law. She was recording me and asking me how I felt. ( I wonder if she still has that video...)
Anyway, they dropped me off and I ran to the stairs. I looked up and there is my handsome man wearing a suit and holding red roses (which I still have by the way!) We hugged tightly and kissed each other. He then grabbed my hand and led me to the bench. where rose pedal and candles were around. I sat down and he went down on one knee! (ahhh! still gives me butterfly's)
By my full name " Adela Elizabeth Martinez.."he started expressing his love for me and asked me if I would marry him.. and of course I said YES YES YES! after all the smooching and putting my ring on my finger, We slowed dance and had sparkling cider to celebrate.
After all that, we headed to a restaurant where more of our family was waiting to celebrate our engagement! One of the best nights of my life!!!
